SMU stays local with commit

SMU doesn’t have to look too far to find talent. Right in its own backyard is one of the deepest talent pools in the country. So it’s no surprise to see the Ponies stay local again to land its latest commitment.
This time the commitment is from first-team all-district defensive tackle Chase Smith. The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder picked SMU over an offer from Louisiana Monroe. He recorded around 70 tackles, three sacks and 19 pressures as a senior.
“I really liked the school and the location is great,” he said. “I was recruited by coach Sawyer. He’s going to be my position coach, and I liked him a lot.”
