A massive quarterback development has hit in the 2025 class as Rivals250 quarterback and longtime TCU commit Ty Hawkins has flipped his commitment to SMU.

Hawkins ranks as the No. 159 overall prospect and No. 4 dual threat quarterback in the 2025 cycle.

The new IMG Academy signal caller had been committed to TCU since June of 2023.

Hawkins is now the headlining piece of the Mustangs 2025 class, which holds five four-star prospects, four of which already call Dallas home.

With SMU having to fill the void this summer of now Alabama commit Keelon Russell, the Mustangs shifted to their new top target in Hawkins. They expressed their plans for him on that visit and it resonated with him.

"I've been talking to the coaches, staying in touch with them for the past couple weeks after my official visit and I just feel like at SMU I have the best chance of playing early and taking over the ACC. I really trust coach (Deriq) King and coach (Rhett) Lashlee and I feel like I could fit in well in their offense."

Hawkins gave some details about the timeline in which he made the decision.

"Honestly, it was these past couple of days. I told coach Lashlee about two days ago that I was ready and I have been thinking about it. I had two good visits to both TCU and SMU, and I have nothing bad to say about TCU, but I just feel like SMU was the better option in the end."

In his two seasons at quarterback for San Antonio (Texas) Johnson, Hawkins threw for 4,260 passing yards and 54 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,866 yards and another 24 touchdowns his prep career.
