Smith talks past and future visits

Midlothian (Ill.) Bremen running back David Smith is becoming active with visits this fall. His most recent trip took place two weekends ago when he traveled to West Lafayette to see Purdue battle Notre Dame.
"It was exactly what I expected," Smith said. "The fan base was pretty crazy, which I expected. A couple guys were down on official visits, and I talked with them. Their [running game] is exactly what I am looking for."

Following his visit to Purdue, Smith said his interest in the Boilermakers remains and they will be part of his recruitment going forward. But Smith is still pretty open-minded about the schools on his list. He has narrowed his focus just to the BCS Conference schools that have offered, but plans to take all of his official visits before deciding. His first official visit has been set with Boston College for the weekend of Nov. 12.
"That might change due to our playoffs," Smith said.
Iowa and West Virginia are two schools that Smith has already declared would be recipients of official visits, and he is getting closer to scheduling those dates.
"We are trying to get something in late November or early December for sure," Smith said.
Other BCS schools that have offered include Arizona, Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oregon State and Vanderbilt. They will vie for his two remaining official visit slots, which are still undetermined.
"I would say it's up in the air still," Smith said. "I really do like Cincinnati, but we'll see what happens."
Smith's next unofficial visit could take place this coming weekend. He is considering heading down to Champaign to see Illinois play host to Ohio State.
