WESTWOOD, Calif. - John Smith now has four official visits all but locked in, giving further clues as to his favorites and what the Long Beach (Calif.) Poly safety is thinking about with the recruiting process.
Smith said Friday at the B2G Elite Camp he will attend the Alabama-LSU game, the Michigan-Ohio State matchup, he'll be at Notre Dame-USC and most likely the Ohio State-Wisconsin game although that final one is not official yet.
"They're really highly up there," Smith said of those four host schools. "Another school I'm really highly looking at is Ole Miss and they could be in there, too."
The four-star prospect who shined at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Chicago still has a laundry list of top programs with Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Alabama, USC, UCLA and Washington comprising his top eight.
Smith said Wisconsin is also being considered but not as much as the others.
"Right now they're all the same," Smith said. "I have a top eight and I'm going to narrow it down. There's not really a No. 9 but (Wisconsin) is still there."
The local schools - USC, UCLA and even Washington - are by no means trailing the other teams in his recruitment. It's just a matter of Smith preferring to take his official trips to destinations not easily reached.
Heading to the Midwest multiple times and possibly the South if an Ole Miss trip is in the cards seems more reasonable to Smith than taking an official trip down the road to USC or UCLA.
"I would love to stay local," Smith said. "Those schools, I could just walk to. I can come to USC, UCLA any day. Washington is down the street, so flying there isn't a problem. It's that Alabama and those schools are really far."
