Overland Park (Kan.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star linebacker Brian Smith has been a long time Iowa commitment, and that pledge has been definitely tested by Notre Dame ever since he picked up an offer from the Fighting Irish late last week.
Four Notre Dame coaches were in Smith's home on Sunday night and now after a family meeting on Monday night it looks like the No. 2 player in Kansas is going to investigate the Irish a little more.
"We decided last night that Brian will take an official visit to South Bend this weekend," Smith's father, Chris Smith, said.

"That is the only thing determined at this time."
Smith's father played fullback at Notre Dame and was known mainly as the key blocker for Allen Pinkett.
Smith said he was a Michigan fan early in his life, but that quickly turned to a love for the Fighting Irish when his father took him to a game in South Bend, Ind. The trip for the Michigan-Notre Dame game quickly made him a big Notre Dame fan, and it's a love affair that continues today.
But his commitment to Iowa has been strong ever since he made it back on Aug. 15, but now the pledge will be tested to its limits with a trip to South Bend looming large for the 6-foot-2, 222-pounder.
