Currently on his spring break, Coppell, Texas cornerback Devin Smith is spending some time in California visiting some family. At home, recruiting is starting to pick up and a scholarship offer may not be too far off.
The 5-foot-11, 179-pounder says that he's going to try to make some visits when he gets back to the Lone Star State after his vacation. Several new schools are also showing interest in Smith, but he says he remains open.
"I want to get out to Oklahoma State when I get back in town," Smith said. "I also just started hearing from Wisconsin and Utah as well."
Smith's only visit so far was to the LSU's junior day. He enjoyed his time checking out the Tigers program. Smith also plans to visit Texas for their spring game.
"They have a new coach recruiting my area, coach (D.J.) McCarthy," Smith said. "They just told me they really liked my highlight tape and they like what they see in me."
Without a scholarship offer in hand, Smith says he's undecided as to when he'll make a commitment. He's just looking for a school that is solid in athletics, but also strong in academics as well.
"Basically, I'm looking at what type of academic things they offer and also that they have a good athletic program," he said. "Also the location is important. I don't want to be too far from home."
