Smith keeping an open mind

Meridian (Miss.) three-star 2015 quarterback J'Mar Smith will take to the baseball field January 17, but he will also be keeping an eye on the recruiting front.
That standout signal caller already holds an offer from Mississippi State, and has been keeping in touch with a few college football coaches.

"I've just been talking to some coaches," Smith said. "I've been talking to La Tech. I've been talking to Tennessee's running back coach and that's all I've talked to for right now. I've still been talking to (Mississippi) State and Alabama."
As for junior day events, Smith is hoping to attend as many as possible.
"Oh yeah, if I'm invited I'll try to make it there, but I haven't gotten invited so I don't know what's ahead," Smith said.
Smith, who threw for over 2500 yards and 20 touchdowns while running for just shy of 500 yards and another 11 scores as a junior, has drawn plenty of college attention for his athleticism, and the thought of playing another position besides quarterback is not a worry.
"I can play an athlete position," Smith said. "I'm just looking for an opportunity to play D1. I've been playing quarterback for three years now. I kind of like the position but whatever the coach wants me to play I can play. It's no thing to transform to another position. I just have to get used to playing a position I'm not really accustomed to playing. It's no big deal to me."
If he doesn't play quarterback on the college level he already has a few spots which have crossed his mind in receiver and linebacker.
As much as he is keeping an open mind about his future position, he is also keeping an open mind about possible college destinations.
"I don't have anyone standing out right now," Smith said. "I'm keeping my options open."
