Cameron Smith has a new favorite and it sure sounds like USC is going to be tough to beat in his recruitment.
The 2015 four-star linebacker from Granite Bay, Calif., said he's not ready to commit yet but the Trojans top his list especially after being offered during his recent unofficial visit.
"It was really good," Smith said. "I loved the school, loved the facilities, loved the coaches and everything was great.
"I think they're No. 1 right now, but there is still some time to go. When they offered, I almost just committed right there. I kind of wanted to go through this process and have fun since it's an once-in-a-lifetime thing. I told them I'm going to wait a little longer."
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound four-star who finished with more than 100 tackles in his junior season has a rough timetable for his decision. USC is the team to beat, but Smith said he's also going to reach out to some other programs to see what's going on.
"I think I'm going to commit toward the end of the summer right before I go back to school," Smith said.
"That is always where I wanted to go since I was little. Finally, when they offered it kind of sunk in. it's a really good feeling right now.
"UCLA is right there, but I'm still on that high so USC is No. 1. From there it's a random order. There are no schools after that where I have an order."
The Granite Bay standout plans to start Monday making calls to some other programs to figure out their interest.
"I'm going to call Penn State (Monday) to see where I am," Smith said. "That's such a linebacker school. That's always been a dream as well. Michigan is still talking to me a lot, Nebraska, and then Oregon came in a couple weeks ago. Alabama is showing interest as well."
