Smith gives soft commitment to Huskies

West Bakersfield (Calif.) wide out Brandon Smith said he has been leaning to Washington for some time so it wasn't too surprising when the talented athlete announced for the Huskies on his official visit this past weekend. Smith did say it's a 'soft' commitment and he'll still take three more visits.
"I really like Coach Willingham a lot," Smith said. "He's a wonderful person and I just think it would be good for me to be around someone like that. I think Coach Willingham is the kind of guy that can help me grow and mature as a person and that's what I need.

"I also think Coach Willingham has the passion and energy to turn the program around and I believe in what he's about. Washington has great tradition and a lot of history and I'm hoping to help turn things around and bring back some of the past glory there."
Smith said despite his commitment, he still has three more trips he's planning to take.
"I just want to have something to compare Washington to," Smith said. "I told Coach Wilingham I plan to take these trips and he's fine with it. I'm going to Arizona State this weekend (Jan. 14), Cal (Jan. 21) and then Arizona (Jan. 28). My commitment is solid though but I feel I owe it to myself to see what else is out there so I don't have any regrets."
