Smith an unusual commitment

Very seldom does a player commit to a college without having visited there. But that is exactly what has happened with Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic star Lamont Smith.
"He committed to Colorado without ever visiting there," coach Terry Toten said. "It takes a lot of resolve to know what you want and do that without a visit.

"But he was impressed with the coaching staff and likes the conference."
Smith rushed for 2062 yards, averaged 7.3 per carry, and scored 21 times during his junior season. He also returned kickoffs and played very sparingly on defense.
At 5-foot-8 and 151 pounds, Smith will likely move to cornerback for the Buffaloes.
"I think he'll play defensive back, maybe some tailback, and return kicks," Toten said. "He's capable of playing on either side of the ball."
Toten said Smith also had offers from Arizona State, Temple, Toledo, and Rutgers.
