Slocum ready for Michigan, sets MD trip

The nation’s No. 1 offensive guard, Marques Slocum, is ready for a weekend trip to Michigan.
“They are one of my top schools for sure,” the Philadelphia (Pa.) West Catholic prospect said. “It is a great place and I like the coaches I’ve met so far. I went there earlier on my own when I was looking around and really liked it. It is going to be good to go there and have them spell out everything for me.

"Everyone is about equal right now. I plan to make all my visits before I make a decision. At least, that is how I would like to do it.”
Slocum, who also played defensive tackle for West Catholic High, had a rare night off from in-home visits Wednesday. Michigan, North Carolina, LSU and Maryland have been dropping in recently, but Thursday night was quiet.
“They’ve been nice visits,” Slocum said. “I’ve met most of the coaches before, so that part of it isn’t new. We had a little more time to talk sometimes and ask questions.”
The 6-foot-4, 331-pound star has made a few adjustments in his official visits.
“I was waiting for Miami, but I wasn’t hearing a lot from them recently,” Slocum said. “I’ve kind of gone another direction. I’m going to visit Maryland Dec. 17 instead. I like Maryland. And then I will visit LSU and North Carolina sometime in January. I’m thinking right now I would like to visit both of them. I would visit one on one weekend and then go to the other on the next weekend.”
Slocum knows the life of a four-star recruit is going to be busy.
“My coach has told me hang in there through all the calling and visiting,” Slocum said. “I can’t make a bad choice, because I’ve got some great schools to pick from. I’m looking forward to getting it done.”
