Philadelphia (Pa.) West Catholic offensive guard/defensive tackle Marques Slocum is one of the top prospects in Pennsylvania for 2005. Slocum, a four-star prospect, now has 28 scholarship offers and he has seven schools on his mind.
"Virginia, Maryland, Boston College, Virginia Tech, LSU, Michigan, and Michigan State are the schools that stand out to me right now," said the 6-foot-5, 330-pound lineman who runs the 40-yard dash in 5.06 seconds.
Slocum has a busy July planned.
"I am going to visit NC State, North Carolina, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, and Iowa this month. It is going to be crazy, but I need to get a good feel for each of the schools before I decide to narrow my list."
Slocum has already visited both Virginia and Virginia Tech as well as Boston College.
"I had good visits to all of them. Virginia Tech has a solid staff and the team has been good for a while now. Virginia is the school that is recruiting me the hardest. Boston College was really nice, my teammate and I went there and I like the coaches."
What does Slocum look for in a school?
"I am looking for that feeling. I know the feeling I am looking for and it is hard to put it into words. I want to surround myself with the best coaches and people that are about winning."
Slocum is standout on the both sides of the ball. He starts at guard on offense and plays defensive end and tackle on defense. Last season, Slocum racked up 75 tackles and nine sacks on defense. He plans on taking all five official visits before making a decision.
