Sleeper WR emerges in Louisiana

A sleeper has emerged in Louisiana. Port Allen High wide receiver Damion Dixon has an early offer from a Southeastern Conference program and is getting serious attention from a number of other BCS Conference schools.
The 6-foot-4, 187-pounder holds a written scholarship offer from Auburn and LSU, Oklahoma State, Connecticut and a number of other programs have expressed serious interest.

"He's by far the best wide receiver I've coached," Port Allen head coach Guy Blanchard said. "He's a great kid with a great work ethic. And he's one of the most unselfish players you will find."
Blanchard remembers an example of Dixon's excellent attitude from this past season.
"We were winning the last game of the season," he said. "We were not in the playoff hunt. Instead of wanting to get some balls to pad his stats, he was coming over to the sidelines saying 'coach let them run behind me, we're going to win this game."
Dixon caught 38 passes for 901 yards and eight touchdowns during his junior season. He also had four interceptions on defense.
The offensive numbers are excellent considering the style of offense the Blanchard runs at Port Allen.
"We run Air Force's offense (under former coach Fisher DeBerry) almost exactly," Blanchard said. "I've actually had to go out and learn more about the passing game and get us in the shotgun more than we used to because of (Dixon).
"I'm not opposed to throwing the ball, but I am sort of the belief that when you throw it, three things can happen and two of those are bad."
Dixon also works hard in the offseason.
"He's one of our 'blackshirts' that we have here at Port Allen," Blanchard said. "The guys that don't miss any of our summer weightlifting sessions get a shirt. I've had kids miss one session and ask if they can make it up, but you have to go 100 percent to get a shirt. (Dixon) says he's going to get another one this summer."
Dixon also projects to qualify academically.
"He's got a 23 on the ACT and a 2.2 core grade point average, so he's already qualified," Blanchard said. "He's made one bad grade during high school and that was his freshman year. He says he's going to go to summer school and re-take the class to replace the bad grade."
Interest in Dixon has picked up since the start of the spring evaluation period.
"The word is out," he said.
Blanchard added that Florida, Florida State and Michigan could also be schools that Dixon has an interest in.
