Sleeper QB is one to watch

Northern California is loaded at quarterback this season and the northern part of the state has seen an increase of top-line quarterback talent. The national champion Miami Hurricanes were led by NoCal quarterback.
One of the reasons for improved quarterback play in NoCal is former Cal Bear head coach Roger Theder. Theder quietly has become one of the best quarterback gurus in the nation.

Theder is now tutoring another quarterback who has the potential to play on the D-I level, but at the present time he is considered a sleeper. This sleepers name is Greg Reynolds (6-5, 205, 4.8) from Pacifica (Calif.) Terra Nova.
When you think tough, gritty quarterbacks, you think of Reynolds. He broke his thumb on his non-throwing hand. He missed two and half games and played a couple of games with a cast on.
Playing the game of football is challenging enough, but when you play with a cast on at any position, it’s even tougher. When you’re the quarterback it’s tougher still. Reynolds lined up under center with a cast and he still excelled.
Reynolds passed for 1,700 yards and threw for 16 touchdowns. He did throw eight interceptions, but four of them came in his first game back from his injury and while he had his cast on. Reynolds was selected 1st-team all-league, 1st-team all-county, 2nd-team all-CCS and honorable mention all-metro.
The scouting report on Reynolds is he’s your typical drop-back quarterback with decent mobility. He possesses a strong arm, very accurate, can throw on the run and makes good decisions.
Reynolds just came back from the Stanford three-game camp. “I had a great time at Stanford,” Reynolds said. “I was able to meet and be coached by head coach (Buddy) Teevans and offensive coordinator (Mike) Sanford. I learned a lot from both of them.”
Reynolds is also a prospect on the baseball diamond and was selected all-state in that sport. He is an outstanding pitcher who was 7-1 with an ERA of 1.90. Reynolds had 45 K’s in 43 innings. Stanford is talking to him for his baseball abilities. So are the Anaheim Angels and the Chicago Cubs.
For the gridiron, Reynolds is interested in Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, UCLA and ASU. The Ivy’s have also shown interest.
Reynolds is another one to watch the fall in 2002…
