Sleeper pulls the trigger

Sleeper athlete prospect Darrin Lewis (6-1, 170, 4.57) from Pomona, Calif., has been flying under the radar this recruiting season, but that has worked in the favor of one coach that has a lot of contacts in the area because this coach scooped him up before the word got out about his ability.
Lewis was benefited by the arrival of John Brown, who was a longtime assistant coach at Pomona and now he has returned as head coach. Brown dusted off his rolodex and called some old friends. One of them liked what he saw in Lewis, offered him and Lewis accepted.

"Darrin got an offer from Eastern Michigan and he committed to them last night," Brown said. "The reason why he committed early to Eastern Michigan is he wants to concentrate on his senior season and on his books.
"Eastern Michigan head coach Ron English has taken a player of mine wherever he has been," Brown said. "He received a good in Darrin.
"I have coached three players who have made it to the NFL and Darrin reminds me of them," Brown said. "He really reminds me of Husain Abdullah in size, speed and football IQ.
"Husain played for Washington State and is now playing for the Minnesota Vikings," Brown said. "Like Husain, Darrin can do a lot of things on the football field.
"Darrin will be our starting quarterback, but will also play some safety and cornerback for us," Brown said. "He is being recruited to play corner, but they will put him in the short line to the field.
"Meaning wherever he will get on the field first is where he will play. He's a pure athlete."
Brown has other players at Pomona that he feels will be playing on Saturdays.
"My goal at Pomona is to get four kids to the D-I level," Brown said. "I know I have two and hope to have two more."
Rivals.com will have stories on all the rising players at Pomona.
Lewis earned all-league as a junior from his defensive back spot as a junior.
