Sleeper makes pledge

Athlete prospect Fonomanu Sekona (6-4, 250, 4.8) from Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger is a great testimony that anything can happen on the recruiting trail, even late offers and trips.
Sekona was getting about as many calls as the Maytag repair then it all opened up for him. He received two offers during the last two weeks of recruiting.

"Fono took his second trip in as many weeks to Idaho," Leuzinger assistant coach Ralph Oliver said. "He said he was going to make his decision after his trip. Sekona committed to Idaho while on his trip.
"Dick Tomey (San Jose State head coach) came by last week to offer him a scholarship and give LOI instructions as did Idaho's coaching staff.
"It was a tough decision for him because the San Jose State visit went great for him," Oliver said. "He liked his coach and said the campus and facilities were great.
"Fono's only question about Idaho was the weather but he says he's up for it," Oliver said. "He liked both Coach Nash who recruited him for San Jose State and Coach Nansen from Idaho."
The Vandals get a very athletic guy who played quarterback and linebacker for Leuzinger but projects as a tight end, linebacker or defensive linemen for Idaho.
Arizona State, Besides Idaho and San Jose State; ASU also showed some late interest in Sekona.
In an earlier interview with Oliver he had the following to say about his talented player.
"Fono is a freakish athlete," Oliver said. "The Arizona State coaches found out about him because they were evaluating Adam Tello of Norco and Fono kept popping out to them.
