Sleeper LB Waking Up Scouts

The Hawaiian Islands always attracts D-I recruiters from the mainland and not just for the opportunity to spend some time in paradise. Every year the Islands provide colleges with some of the nation’s top talent and a sleeper or two.
This year is no different. Keep your eye on Kala Ka’aihue, a hard-hitting linebacker from Iolani, Hawai’i. Ka'aihue stands 6-foot-1, weighs 225 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds. He benches 280 pounds, squats 405 pounds and recorded a 28-inch vertical jump.

Like most players from the Islands Ka’aihue is very tough. From his middle linebacker position, Ka’aihue picked up over 60 tackles, ten tackles for loss, four interceptions (one that he returned for a TD) and three sacks. His junior feat saw him selected all-state and all-conference.
The scouting report on Ka’aihue is that he has terrific football instincts and is an awesome hitter. He has tremendous desire, and plays hard on every down the whole game, no matter what the score.
Ka’aihue is very agile and loose. He knows how to take the angles and to the football. He’s also excellent at getting off the block and doesn’t back down.
An outstanding athlete, Ka’aihue is also an outstanding baseball player and his getting looks at that sport by both college and pro scouts.
Ka’aihue was thought of as sleeper early in the recruiting process, but the word is now out. He is hearing from the likes of Nebraska, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Penn State and Hawai’i.
