Sleeper gunslinger racking up wins and stats

Sleeper quarterback Max Fritz (6-3, 190, 4.7) from Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic is beginning to really make a name for himself. The talented signal caller has helped lead his team to a perfect 5-0 record and a No. 1 ranking in the Grand Canyon State.
"Max is really an athletic for a guy who stands 6-foot-3 and he runs very well," Salpointe Catholic coach Dennis Bene said. "We run a one back offense and he handles it with ease.

"We send him to the line with a couple of plays and he always checks into the right one," Bene said. "Max is a very accurate passer and is extremely intelligent.
Accurate indeed. In his five games, Fritz has hit on 89 passes out of 119 attempts completing 74.8 percent. He has thrown for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns against only two interceptions.
"The thing that makes Max dangerous he really throws well on the run," Bene said. "He always keeps his eyes downfield. He's killing defenses because he sees what's happening downfield and is making plays."
"I think he has an offer from Wyoming and West Point just offered him a visit," Bene said. "Utah just called this week and they are showing interest."
Besides Wyoming, Army, and Utah; Arizona State, Nevada, UTEP, Washington State, Kansas and San Diego State are also showing some interest the sleeper gunslinger from Salpointe Catholic.
As a junior Fritz threw for 2,014 yards while hitting on 68 percent of his pass and 18 touchdowns. His performance saw him earn first-team all-conference and first-team all-area in 2005.
Fritz is off to the same type of season in 2006, but better.
