Sleeper athlete is ready to blow up

Moorpark, Calif., is home to one of the west's biggest secrets in athlete prospect Josh Smith (6-2, 175, 4.5). Not much was known about Smith a year ago because he moved into the Moorpark area after living in Osceola, Florida.
Smith didn't play a lot of football before he arrived in Moorpark but he took to the game and as far as athleticism goes, he's off the charts.

Smith has recorded a 22.11 long jump.
Smith will be getting very little time off this season, which starts tonight (Thursday August 31, 2006) against a very tough Canyon Country (Calif.) Canyon in the season opener.
The talented Smith will be starting both ways and will return kicks on special teams.
On the offensive side of the ball he's going to lineup as a wide receiver and on defense, Moorpark is going to use size and length at the cornerback spot.
Because of Smith's athleticism and going both ways, he could be one of those guys who comes out of nowhere, blows up, then gets on everybody's must get list.
As a junior, Smith caught eight passes for 213 yards and a very productive three touchdowns while averaging 26.6 yards per catch. He's going to be the go to guy in 2006 and why not with his playmaking ability.
There aren't many guys who can run with fast wide receiver and have the size to play the larger wide receivers that are so much a part of today's game.
Smith brings a lot to the table and if he plays up to expectations then there will be a bull run for his services.
"Josh has good ball schools," Moorpark coach Tim Lins said. "He has picked up the nuances of the game pretty quickly."
Right now Fresno State is already showing interest in Smith and are ahead of the recruiting curve.
Don't be looking for Fresno State to be playing the Maytag repair for too long, the word is there will be others joining Fresno State in the very near future.
