Sledge planning to make a bang at WR

When college coaches embark on their journey every season to find wide receivers, they all recruit the state of Florida very heavily. The Sunshine state seems to produce the best wide receivers in the country every year, bar none. One of the better ones in the Sunshine state this year is Apopka, Fla. wide receiver Eric Sledge.
“My most recent offers have come from Notre Dame and Air Force,” said Sledge. “I already had offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama, Louisville and Michigan State.”

Sledge, who is 6-foot-2.5 and weighs 188 pounds, runs the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds.
“Right now Ohio State is still probably my top school. I am also looking at Florida and Miami really hard. I’m interested in learning more about Georgia Tech as well. I am still interested in Auburn, Michigan State and Louisville.”
As a junior Sledge mad 75 tackles, forced one fumble and intercepted two passes. He is being recruited to play both safety and wide receiver on the college level.
“I don’t really care which one I play because I like them both and I think I would do well at either position. I might prefer wide receiver just a little bit, but not enough to where it would affect my decision.”
At the Miami NIKE camp Sledge ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, ran a 4.34-second shuttle, did nine reps on the bench press and had a 27.4 inch vertical jump.
“I’m looking for a school that fits my style of play whether I play wide receiver or safety. I want to go somewhere that has a winning tradition and offers the education programs that I’m interested in.”
Sledge may not be getting as much publicity as guys like Fred Rouse, but he says that is okay with him.
“I feel like I am the underdog. I grew up on the street playing catch with the football. I have never played wide receiver and this will be my first year to do it. I think I went out at the NIKE camp and showed everyone just how good I can be at either position.”
