Slaughter nears a decision

Fort Bend (Texas) Elkins linebacker Blake Slaughter is nearing his decision and four Big 12 schools are in the running.
Slaughter, who was just named to the Greater Houston Touchdown Club preseason team, is favoring Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Rice University.

"I want to make my decision by August 30th, just before our first game," he said. "I really like those five schools and the decision is very hard."
The all-district linebacker recently visited Iowa State and came away impressed.
"It was everything I expected and more," he said. "They had the best facilities I've seen yet and I got to meet Coach (Gene) Chizik. That was incredible."
Slaughter has done his research on each school and has weighed the pros and cons of each school.
On Texas Tech: "It's a great in-state school and is in the Big 12. I like the coaches and I like their defensive scheme."
On Rice: "Rice has great academics. It's so hard to pass that up. I can really see myself playing there. That's what makes this decision so hard."
On Oklahoma State: "Up there it's football, football, football. They are always in the mix against the toughest teams. They've been to bowl games and have been around the Top 25 for years."
On Kansas State: "What can I say about Kansas State? The atmosphere up there is insane."
The only thing left for Slaughter is his decision. Everybody's waiting.
