Fort Bend Elkins linebacker Blake Slaughter has narrowed his favorites to five and will be unofficially visiting two of the schools this month. The 6-foot-0, 220-pound Slaughter camped at Rice University this past weekend and is heading to Iowa State this upcoming weekend.
"Right now my top five are Iowa State, Rice, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State," he said.
"I'm looking forward to these visits and I'm looking for a coaching staff that I'm comfortable with," he said. "I'm also looking for a school that can take care of my academic needs. Getting a degree is first and foremost."

While Slaughter had over 120 tackles last fall, he prides himself on his 4.3 cumulative GPA. He hopes to make his verbal commitment in August, but will not rush things if he doesn't find the right fit.
"I'm a little unsure right now, but I hope these visits clear things up," he said. "I've heard a lot about coach Gene Chizik and Iowa State's facilities. They are an up and coming program and they want me to be part of their bright future. I'd like to be a part of that.
"As far as Rice, the academics are second to none," he said.
