"I committed to Notre Dame," Slaughter said. "I committed to coach Corwin Brown and coach Bill Lewis on the phone late last night and then gave a commitment to (Irish head coach) Charlie Weis this morning at 6:45 and made it official."
The highly-touted prospect picked the Irish over Michigan, Georgia, LSU and others. He is commitment No. 16 for the Irish in the Class of 2008 and the second from the state of Georgia. He joins defensive tackle Omar Hunter of Buford (Ga.) as the top highly-touted Peach State prospects to commit to Notre Dame in this year's class.
Notre Dame secondary coach Bill Lewis was the recruiter of record for Slaughter. This was Lewis' second verbal commitment in this year's class. Earlier, he picked up a pledge from Rivals100 safety prospect Robert Blanton of Matthews (N.C.) Butler.
Slaughter is the No. 6 safety prospect in America and the No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Georgia according to Rivals.com.
