Each high school athlete interested in taking his skills to the next level prioritizes the things that will factor most into their decision. Near the top of the list for running back Mikell Simpson is the possibility of playing early.
Simpson, a 6-foot-2 and 190-pound back from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He has offers from schools like Virginia, Wisconsin, UCLA, North Carolina, Nebraska, Indiana and several others. Does he have any leaders?
"No, right now I feel like I've got to do some studying and listening to coaches from the schools that have offered. I'm still waiting for someone like Southern Cal to offer, or some school like that, because that might change things for me. But right now I'm just prioritizing things."
What will be the most important factors in his decision?
"I want to get some playing time pretty early," he said. "I don't want to be buried on a depth chart and not get to see the ball for a couple of years. I also would prefer not to be in an offense where the team just throws the ball all the time. I don't mind if they're more of a pass oriented team, but I want the chance to carry the ball."
Simpson will go to Virginia on June 12 and may attend several camps during the summer, but he's in no rush to make a decision. He plans on taking his official visits unless anything changes drastically.
