BALTIMORE -- Rivals250 linebacker Jahvoni Simmons keeps a low profile for the most part, but at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour, the star from Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes talked about an upcoming visit and shortening his list soon after.
"I'm planning on going to Notre Dame at the end of the month and I'll probably cut my list down when I get back," said the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Simmons. "I think I'm going up there from June 23 to June 25. My brother and I are trying to set up visits to LSU, Alabama, Oregon, Clemson and Tennessee."
Simmons knows of a few schools that will make his short list.
"Virginia, Clemson and Alabama will definitely make my cut," he said. "Virginia is a great school with a great education program and they're close to home. My family can come up to games no matter what. I also have friends and family there so I can't definitely feel like I'm at home.
"Coach Venables at Clemson is a great dude," Simmons said. "I know Tahj Boyd because he's from my area. I've talked with him a little bit and he's told me some great things about the school."
Two schools have already been chosen by Simmons for official visits.
"I'm definitely going to take official visit to Oregon and Alabama," he said. "Looking forward to Alabama and Oregon visits. I want to see all the sweet uniforms at Oregon but I also want to see the deeper part of the visit with the education program and how my family and I bond with the coaches. I'm looking forward to the same things at Alabama."
A number of other schools are in touch with Simmons
"I'm talking to coaches from Georgia Tech, Miami, Alabama, LSU and Oregon a lot," said Simmons. "I'm probably closest with the coaches from Virginia and Georgia Tech."
Simmons would like to commit during the upcoming season or after the season.
