Simmons is Cal bound

The Cal Bears landed one of the state of California’s best linebacker prospects when Marlin Simmons (6-1, 210, 4.5) from Lynwood, Calif., committed to Cal head coach Jeff Tedford and staff.
“We came back yesterday”, Mr. Simmons, Marlin’s Dad said. “We had a great time and Marlin committed to Berkeley.”

“Marlin could have gone to USC when he was at their camp this past summer,” Mr. Simmons said. “And he could have gone to Kansas State.”
“Marlin kind of wants to make his own way and not be in the shadows of his brothers,” Mr. Simmons said. “So he decided on Cal.”
Simmons two older brothers Melvin Simmons played for USC and Marvin Simmons is at Kansas State.
“It is great for us too that Marlin chose Cal,” Mr. Simmons said. “Cal isn’t that far away so we will be able to see his games.”
“I am very proud of Marlin,” Mr. Simmons said. “He’s going to get a great education at Cal.”
One of the main reasons that Simmons chose Cal is the Bears need linebackers.
Another reason that Simmons chose Cal is the whole family loves Coach (Jeff) Tedford and the whole staff.
“It was one of the best experiences I have ever had on college campus,” Mr. Simmons said. “They (the Cal staff) all knew their jobs and everything was well organized and ran well.”
Marlin Simmons was selected all-CIF, all-area and all-league as a senior after racking up over 100 tackles.
The Bears land a player from one the state’s most talented football families.
As before mentioned, the Simmons family has two D-I players and a third in Marlin Simmons on the way.
There are four more Simmons boys at home and of course they are linebackers.
