"I committed to FIU yesterday," said Thomas. "I always saw myself playing in the ACC, but FIU has a good season last year. They were the only ones recruiting me hard in this area.
"They got commitments from Troy McCollum and Xavier Hines. I felt like I should be a part of that. We could come in and play as freshmen. The opportunity is there."
Thomas committed to FIU while visiting campus on Saturday.
"I talked to coach Cristoball and Coach Popovich," he said. "I was down there yesterday at their practice. They were overwhelmed. I guess they didn't think I was going to commit. The whole coaching staff has been telling me how bad they want me. I can be a great guy in the secondary. When I told them I was ready to commit they were happy.
"The trip was good. When I got down there Trey McCollum and Xavier Hines were there. We met with a lot of guys in the secondary. It was all pretty good."
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect will take other visits.
"I am going to take some more visits," said Thomas. "I feel like I made the right choice. I will look at Clemson, Ole Miss, Florida State, UCF and USF. It feels great to be committed and knowing you are part of something special. They are going to be in the Big East. It's a big stress off my back."
