One of the top receivers in the West region is San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa's Markques Simas. Simas has a solid top five right now and said he's hoping to have a decision made by Christmas.
Simas, 6-1, 200 pounds was a 1st team all-state underclass selection last season after catching 41 balls for 875 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was one of the top receivers we saw at the NIKE Camp at Stanford where he was able to physically overmatch just about every corner he went up against.
Simas has a great frame and plays faster than his 40 time. He's a smooth route runner and is able to get separation from a defender when the ball is in the air. The athlete seems to have that extra gear few receivers have and can pull away from opposing defensive backs.

On the recruiting front, Simas said things have been pretty status quo the last month or so and still has a solid group of schools he's looking at.
"I don't have a leader but I do have a small group of schools I like," Simas said. "Michigan, San Diego State, Colorado, Arizona and Cal would be my top five right now. My plan is to take official visits during the season to all five schools and then commit sometime in December.
"Michigan is a big time program and I'm taking a visit there in October. They're the one school on my list outside of the West but I just like the school a lot and love the atmosphere there. I went and saw a game a few years back and really enjoyed myself.
"San Diego State is the local school and I like what the new staff is trying to do. They're trying to build something and it would be cool to be a part of that. I've never been to Colorado but I heard it's really nice and I like the offense they're going to be brining over from Boise State, they plan to pass a lot so I think I would be a good fit.
"Arizona has been recruiting me hard from the beginning. They're kind of new to my list but I've actually always been considering them. Cal has a nice combination of academics and football and I like the location, away from home but not too far. Once I take all my visits, I should be ready to make a decision."
