Signing Day Spotlight: Jack Jones

Jack Jones

Five-star cornerback Jack Jones had a top five but in recent days the Long Beach (Calif.) Poly standout narrowed it down to USC, Texas A&M and Alabama.

For some time, Jones said that the Aggies were out in front and could be difficult to beat especially after taking multiple visits to College Station.

But it seems in recent weeks USC has emerged as a likely destination – and there are definitely connections between the two programs with former Long Beach Poly stars JuJu Smith and Iman Marshall playing well for the Trojans.

That could play a big role for Jones but others have looked good in his recruitment so this one could be a surprise come signing day.

Here is a breakdown from a reporter who covers one of the three schools remaining on Jones’ list:

“USC’s football program has put a fence around Long Beach Poly HS when it comes to top talent, recently and historically. That’s why it seems unlikely that the Trojans would miss out on the latest five-star Jackrabbit, it always seems unlikely. Jones is also clearly interested in USC. He has maintained interest in the program since the Trojans began recruiting him, he’s strongly connected to his family, which is based in Southern California and he also included USC in a top three just days before signing day. However, Jones has worked hard to downplay his interest in being a Trojan to the media. At one point, he even named Texas A&M as his leader. It wouldn’t be shocking if Jones did end up at Alabama or Texas A&M, but USC is the logical pick here and it’s the likely outcome on signing day.” – Chris Swanson, TrojanSports.com

“Texas A&M's recruitment of Jack Jones has been filled with some peaks and some valleys. At one point, they were struggling to get into the mix for the talented athlete, and at one point they were believed to be in the driver's seat for his services. In the end, the Aggies are believed to be in the five-star's final choices but should lack the confidence they once had following Jones' official visit to College Station back in October. As Jones nears his official decision, the Aggies are not seen as the leaders but still in the fight with USC for Jones' signature.” – Rob Sellers, AggieYell.com

"Jones took an official visit to Alabama two weekends ago. He had a great time in Tuscaloosa. He released a top three on Friday which includes Alabama, USC and Texas A&M. Jones visited Alabama once. The Crimson Tide coaching staff has high interest, and would love to sign him. However, it does not appear he will sign with Alabama." – Andrew Bone, TideSports.com
