Signatures roll in from mid-year transfers

The signing period for mid-year transfers kicked off Wednesday morning and there was no shortage of recruiting news for junior college prospects.
Brooklyn (N.Y.) ASA College four-star offensive tackle Charles Baldwin, who ranked No. 1 overall in the Rivals.com junior college preseason 100, followed through with his longtime pledge and inked with Alabama to give the Crimson Tide yet another instant impact lineman. He originally picked Alabama early in the summer over offers from the likes of Georgia, Miami, Michigan State and Ole Miss, and has shown all the tools to be a plug-and-play candidate next season.

Suspense certainly surrounded the decision of one of the top defensive prospects in the nation, four-star cornerback JaMarcus King from Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. The No. 1 cornerback in the juco ranks officially visited South Carolina last weekend and that late push appeared to give the Gamecocks the edge to ultimately land his signature as new head coach Will Muschamp added a key piece to his defense. The one-time Auburn commit also visited Arkansas and Baylor during the recruiting process.

Mark Thompson, the top-rated juco running back, made his longtime commitment to Florida official. The four-star prospect rushed for 1,298 yards and 18 touchdowns in 12 games this season, averaging about 4.8 yards per carry. Thompson will have two years of eligibility remaining and should factor into the Gators' rotation next fall.

Arizona State looked like the early winner out West.
The Sun Devils announced the signing of six mid-year transfers, including four-star defensive end Christian Hill from nearby Glendale (Ariz.) Community College.

Recruiting drama didn't evade the specialists, either.
After taking an official visit to see Florida last month, it only seemed like a matter of time until Miami (Fla.) ASA Miami three-star place kicker Eddy Pineiro decided to stay closer to home. He drew an in-home visit from Nick Saban before the dead period but still de-committed from Crimson Tide before announcing for the Gators on Tuesday.
