Sidney stays local, picks USC

From early in his recruitment, Trevon Sidney had a lot of interest in USC. He talked about the program, how he would fit in and what he liked about the Trojans.
So it came as no major surprise that the four-star receiver from La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat committed to USC over many others on Friday at The Opening.
"I really liked how aggressive they were recruiting me," Sidney said. "They just really showed how much they cared and how much they wanted me.
"They constantly talked to me pretty much every day. Every time I would go there I would meet people I didn't even know and they knew who I was and asked me what was up. It just felt like they really wanted me."
Arizona, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin were just some of the schools that were involved with Sidney but no team built the inroads like USC.
Sidney, who is coming off a fantastic performance at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in Baltimore earlier this summer, said he has talked at length with USC coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Tee Martin has been majorly involved as well.
"It's been pretty great with the coaches," Sidney said. "Sark actually talks to me a lot, probably more than any other head coach. Coach Tee is a great coach and I talk to him on a regular basis. All the other coaches are great, too."
The four-star could play defensive back but Sidney will probably get a shot at receiver first, which has turned out to be his dominant position this offseason.
Also important to Sidney is that the USC coaches said even though he's undersized that the four-star has the ability and chops to be effective as an outside receiver. The Bishop Amat star loved hearing it.
"They probably want me to do a little of both (offense and defense)," Sidney said.
"One of the best points they made was that I could play on the outside. I know because of my size people see me as a slot but I like outside better. Without me telling them that they said I could play outside, too, and that they'll be sure to get me out there. That was good to hear."
Rivals.com rates Sidney as the No. 17 wide receiver and the No. 97 prospect in the 2016 class.
