Shumate ready to impress at NIKE

Las Vegas High linebacker Colin Shumate has been to quite a few events hoping to improve his recruiting stock this spring, but none of them are as important as the one he'll be attending this Saturday.
That's when Shumate, who is 6-foot-1 and 228 pounds, will make the trip to Palo Alto, Calif., for the NIKE Training Camp.

"It's a really big camp," Shumate said. "I've been getting ready for this one for quite some time."
In the mean time, Shumate has been talking to a lot of college coaches and thinking about where the recruiting process is going to take him.
"I've just been talking to a few coaches trying to figure out where I'm going to go I've been talking the most with Nebraska. I've been talking to them a lot. I've been talking to a lot of the Pac-10 schools. I've been in touch with Cal. I'm really looking forward to going to visit Stanford because I've been talking to them a lot. I'd also like to get over to Cal, too."
When he's not worried about recruiting, he's working on improving his game and helping his team prepare to win games in 2007..
"My main goal is to focus on this season coming up and going for another state championship," he said. "I'm just going to keep working hard. I'm just going to let this thing play out and see what happens. We've won consecutive state championships the past two years and I just want to win a third."
To do that, he knows he must get better.
"I can stop the run and I can get to the quarterback, but I just want to grow more in my coverage skills," he said. "I'm not bad at it, but if I get to the point where I'm good in coverage that would make a complete linebacker that's good at everything."
