Linebacker Spencer Shuey out of Charlotte (N.C.) South Mecklenburg is participating in the Shrine Bowl this week. In the meantime, recruiting has picked up for the 6-foot-4, 241-pounder.

"The Shrine Bowl is going good," Shuey said on Wednesday night. "It's a lot of fun and I'm playing on a team and everybody is good."
Shuey got there after an impressive senior year in which he led his team to the state semifinals as he posted 1,250-yards rushing at fullback while recording nearly 100 tackles on defense. He added two blocked field goals, two forced fumbles, two recoveries and one interception for a touchdown.
The big year has resulted in some major interest for the two-star prospect.
"Right now I have seven offers," he said. "I have offers from Illinois, Appalachian State, Duke, Kentucky, James Madison, Marshall and Western Carolina.
"I actually tried to commit to Kentucky awhile back, but they filled all their spots. I haven't talked to them in awhile and I'm not sure what's going on there."
Shuey landed the Appalachian State and Illinois offers recently.
"Illinois is probably at the top of my list," he said. "I fellt in love with my recruiting coordinator from there, Coach Beathard. I've heard good things about Coach Zook from a family friend. I'm planning to take an official visit there on January 23rd."
Shuey has one other official visit scheduled.
"I'm going to Appalachian State on January 16th," he stated. "I've been down there a couple times, but I want to go and look at the campus. I haven't seen the facilities and I want to check them out. I've heard they have good academics, plus before this year they won three national championships in a row. That is appealing."
As recruiting is growing, West Virginia and North Carolina State are starting to take an interest as well.
