Shrine Bowl NC: Five uncommitted, two looking

Many top prospects in North Carolina and South Carolina will participate in the Shrine Bowl this week. Here's a look at the top five uncommitted prospects from the state of North Carolina who will play in the game - and two commits who might be considering other options.

Overton will be committing on January 3 at the Semper Fidelis All-American Game. Clemson and N.C. State are his two finalists. N.C. State hosted Overton on December 4 for an official visit and he has visited Clemson a number of times. Playing time will be a big factor in Overton's decision.
RB
Rico Dowdle
Asheville (N.C.) A. C. Reynolds
Over the weekend Dowdle took an official visit to N.C. State and he will take an official visit to Wake Forest on January 15. He really likes that Wake Forest was the first school to offer him. Tennessee and South Carolina are starting to show interest and Dowdle will take official visits if they offer. He is hoping to commit sometime in January.
DB
Tyric McCarter
New Bern, N.C.
McCarter will be sorting up his recruitment during the dead period and is hoping to schedule official visits to N.C. State and Wake Forest in January. Tennessee has shown some interest but as of now they are not a serious contender. Appalachian State is very much in the picture as well.
OL
Hezekiah Banks
Mount Ulla (N.C.) West Rowman
Banks is a huge offensive lineman with a very high ceiling. So far Charlotte and East Carolina are the only two schools to offer him but a good performance at the Shrine Bowl could really boost his stock. Banks is waiting to commit after he sees what happens once the Shrine Bowl is over.
TWO COMMITTED BUT LOOKING
OL
Pete Leota
Asheville, N.C.
Leota has been committed to South Carolina since mid-September, but the coaching changes have made him a little uneasy. Leota really likes that coach Elliott was retained by Will Muschamp and he will take an official visit to South Carolina on January 15. He is also looking at taking official visits to North Carolina and Wake Forest.
RB
B.J. Emmons
Morganton (N.C.) Freedom
Emmons isn't exactly looking around and has remained firm in his commitment to Alabama. He just took his ACT this past weekend and needs a high enough test score to make sure he qualifies. That is something prep schools and junior colleges are keeping a close eye on. If he doesn't get the score he needs, Emmons could be looking at going to a prep school or junior college.
