due to inclement weather, but a full practice on the field in the morning gave
the players plenty of time to show their stuff. Here are the players that helped
and hurt their rankings stock with their showings.
Pride is one of the most highly recruited players in the state of South Carolina
and he showed why during the first day of practice. He had several pass
deflections along with an interceptions and flashed his trademark closing speed
while breaking up several deep passes down the field. North Carolina,
and others are hard after Troy, who looks like he has a bright future ahead of
him.
QB
Collin Hill
Spartanburg (S.C.) Dorman
The Colorado State commit is playing in his hometown and he looked very
comfortable on the field. He doesn't have a cannon for an arm but he can get the
ball downfield when needed and was very accurate during team play. A pro-style
quarterback with Hill's ability should make for a nice fit in the Rams' offense.
WR
Cornell Powell
Greenville (N.C.) Rose
The Clemson commit is explosive with the ball in his hands and it seemed like he
was open all day, especially down the field. His North Carolina teammates tried
to throw him off with jams at the line, but he's strong enough to shed those and
get up to speed in a hurry. Combine that with his consistent hands and you can
see why the Tigers are happy to have him in the fold.
DB
Tyric McCarter
New Bern, N.C.
The two-star defensive back is eager to prove he's underrated and he played with
an edge on Monday. He made a couple of interceptions and was always around the
ball during team play. During one-on-one coverage on the outside he was physical
without committing penalties and looks the part of a future FBS player.
McCarter's most notable offer is N.C. State.
Stock Down
WR
Chavis Dawkins
Rock Hill (S.C.) Byrnes
Dawkins isn't highly ranked, but he does has FBS offers from N.C. State and
Wake Forest and South Carolina is showing renewed interest. But he struggled catching
the ball on Monday, dropping several catchable passes. Dawkins is more of a
possession receiver and will need to show more consistency as the week wears on.
QB
Dylan Parham
Raleigh (N.C.) Southeast
The N.C. State commit is great at throwing the ball deep, but he's still
struggling to find consistency on short and intermediate routes. That led to a
few passes falling into the arms of defenders on Monday. Parham can extend plays
with his legs as well, but will need to work on his footwork as it will help
other aspects of his game.
