Shinkle headed to Air Force

Carrollton (Texas) Hebron linebacker Garrett Shinkle picked up his first scholarship offer from Air Force in May. Since then, he's been thinking hard about the Falcons.
Shinkle, an all-district selection as a junior, made his commitment over the last few days for the school he's been looking at strongly for the last few months.

"I'm going to the Air Force Academy," Shinkle said. "I did that last Friday. They offered back in May and I've been thinking about it. That's where I want to go. They were actually the first offer. I went up to their camp in June. I really liked it from the coaches to the beautiful scenery and things like that."
Shinkle was recruited by quarterbacks coach Blane Morgan.
"He's a great guy who is actually from here in Dallas," Shinkle said. "He grew up just a couple of miles from where I live. He's a great guy."
While Shinkle works hard in the off-season, he has some goals to get himself prepared for the next level.
"They didn't really talk a lot about playing time, but I don't think they have a lot of depth at outside linebacker," Shinkle said. "I just need to put on a couple more pounds. I went to get up to 202 or 205. I'm at 193 right now, but I'm hoping to get there by the end of the summer.
"It's definitely reachable."
