Sherry picks up offer, more interest

All Nick Sherry needed to do was send out some highlight tapes, be patient while college coaches finished up spring practice and then the Petaluma (Calif.) Casa Grande quarterback would start hearing from more schools.
That was the plan anyway and it's working for Sherry, who recently picked up an offer from San Diego State to go along with Sacramento State. There is also new interest from Pac-10 schools as Sherry, a 6-foot-4, 211-pound prospect, is planning a trip to see the Aztecs during his spring break week.

"I'm pretty excited, first D1 offer came in," Sherry said. "It's exciting for me. It's kind of what you've been waiting for in recruiting.
"You have to go through the struggles of calling coaches every day, making visits, no one really telling you anything. Now that they've offered it's a relief. You're kind of reaping the benefits now."
During Sherry's spring break he is planning a trip to San Diego State. Not only will it be crucial for him to see the campus but to start getting more acclimated to the coaching staff, the offense and to see if the program would be a good fit.
"It's really important," Sherry said. "I want to make sure I'd be comfortable there, especially if I'm going to stay there for four or five years.
"I want to see how the facilities are and the coaches, how they are, and what they're going to do for me and how I'm going to contribute to the team. Just try to get to know the school better."
San Diego State has offered and Sherry will take his time to learn about the program but other teams are charging hard as well.
Sherry said Washington State and Arizona have been in more contact and that about a dozen college coaches are supposed to stop by his school in the spring to watch him throw.
If those sessions go well, Sherry, one of the best-looking prospects at the recent Rivals.com Five-Star Academy at Cal, hopes his recruitment could go to an even higher level.
According to Sherry, a coach from Washington State said if they're impressed during his spring workouts an offer could be on the way.
"I'm getting ready for it," Sherry said. "It's the thing you planned for and just pray and hope it's a good day. It's spread over two weeks, they're all going to try to make a visit down there. We're on their schedule so we'll be practicing and they can come at any time. It should be exciting."
