Shelton makes his choice

It came down to a pair of Pac 10 schools for Compton (Calif.) Dominguez defensive lineman Michael Shelton but in the end, the rush end decided Arizona was the place for him.
"I just called up Coach Stoops and committed to him," Shelton said. "It was between Arizona and Cal and I just liked what Arizona had to offer a little more. My mom really liked them too and that was a big deal for me. I'm pretty tight with Coach Tui (Tuiasosopo) and I like Mike Stoops and the energy he coaches with.

"Arizona has a nice defense and I like how they play. They have good schemes and play hard. Depth chart wise, I should be able to play early and that was another bonus for me. I liked Cal too but I just felt like Arizona was the best overall fit for me and where I felt the most comfortable. I'm going to take my official visit there on (Jan. 7) but I've already seen the campus a few times because of basketball."
Shelton had a big senior season with 17 sacks and could be the premier pass rusher in the state this year. At 6-4, 215 pounds, he has a nice frame and will only get bigger and stronger in college. He'll be playing in the CaliFloridaBowl Jan 2 in Miami.
