Shelton figuring out his future

Plantation (Fla.) three-star cornerback Sojourn Shelton parted ways with his commitment to Florida State earlier this week. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound defensive back is now turning his attention to finding his future home for a second time.
"The three right now would be Nebraska, Cincinnati, and Wisconsin," Shelton said of his top options right now. "I am also really looking at UCF and Wake Forest. Those five are all in it."
The South Florida defensive back says that two of those schools are at the very top of his list at this time.
"I would say it is between Cincinnati and Wisconsin if I had to make a decision today," Shelton said.
Shelton talked more about his two top schools at this point in the process.
"Wisconsin loves my technique," Shelton said. "They used Hugs (Etienne) as an example for me about coming in and building me up, they talked about the weight he is at now. I found that to be pretty cool because I feel that is a weakness in my game, my size. With me coming in during January, that would give them a chance to get some size on me and get them to the weight they would want me to play at.
"I had a real good conversation with the head coach (Butch Jones) at Cincinnati," Shelton added. "He said they would take care of me and everything. We had a player go there two years ago in Deven Drane and I know he says a lot of good things about up there. I talked to Coach John Jancek, the defensive coordinator, and he says he loves me. I talked to the whole coaching staff yesterday on the phone."
"With Wisconsin being in the Big Ten and Cincinnati being in the Big East, I think they are both great places that are great opportunities in great conferences," Shelton continued. "I definitely like those two. I think it would be between those two if I had to make a decision real soon."
The good news for the other schools in the picture is that Shelton isn't in a rush to make his decision. That is good news for Nebraska who just put their name in the running for his services.
"Nebraska offered me after I decommitted," Shelton said. "I talked to Coach Jo (Terry Joseph). We had a real good talk. I gave him a call yesterday and he just pretty much told me about how he got there in the spring after coming from Tennessee. He told me that he wants me to come up there and see the place for myself. He said he has heard a lot of good things about me. He said he watched my tape and he likes my technique. He thinks I would be a good fit as a cornerback for them in his defense and the way he and his defensive coordinator plan to use cornerbacks in their defense.
"I plan on going there for an official visit," Shelton added.
Shelton, who previously has visited Florida State, Miami, and South Carolina, is hoping to check out one more school between now and the opening kickoff of the 2012 season.
"Right now with the season about to start, I am going to try to take maybe one more unofficial," Shelton said. "I don't know yet for sure, I should find out tonight or tomorrow.
"Since I am going to be in Orlando (for Gridiron Kings), the visit would be to UCF," Shelton added. "I have to find out though if the coach will be on campus. I should know by tomorrow."
After this weekend, Shelton intends to turn his attention to scheduling his five official visits and narrowing down his list.
"I am going to graduate in December but I want to take all five official visits," Shelton said. "I have been looking at games and trying to plan everything out and I think I could take them all according to my schedule by November 3rd. If I follow that schedule, then I would probably give myself two weeks after that list visit to go over everything and consider everything before I make a decision in late November or early December."
