COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Practices continued Friday in preparation for the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, and the third day featured a number of standout performances. Here is a look at who exceled and who stumbled for the West team at Orange Coast College.

Stock Up

TE J.C. Chalk

Argyle, Texas; No. 16-ranked tight end

Recruiting wrap: Chalk is committed to Clemson.

Performance: The three-star prospect caught everything that was thrown his way and got open time at will, beating linebackers and safeties with a variety of routes. Chalk looked smooth as a runner and showed off a reliable set of hands, making receptions while maintaining forward momentum. On one play, he sped past a linebacker with a shake move and caught the ball over his shoulder for a long gain.

OL Toleafoa Auwae

Kapolei, Hawaii; No. 4 center

Recruiting wrap: After de-committing from UCLA, Auwae pledged to Vanderbilt but he told Rivals.com this week that Louisville has continued to push for a visit.

Performance: A case could be made that Auwae has been the most consistent offensive lineman for the West team all week long. The future Commodore was once again impressive in one-on-one battles, looking strong at offensive guard and even stronger at center. An assistant coach, in fact, pulled him aside and made sure to point out that center would be his best spot at the next level given his tenacity and mean streak.

WR Theo Howard

Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake; No. 32 in Rivals100

Recruiting wrap: Howard has signed midyear enrollment paperwork with UCLA.

Performance: The four-star prospect made some spectacular catches in tight coverage. Howard had perhaps the grab of the day when he went up in between two defenders and came down with the ball in bounds. Later, he made an over-the-shoulder catch in the end zone after beating a cornerback with a double move.

OLB Noah Burks

Carmel, Ind.; No. 37 outside linebacker

Recruiting wrap: Burks is committed to Wisconsin.

Performance: The buzz on the sideline was that there might not be a player on the team that lives or breathes football more than Burks. That sentiment was definitely validated by how motivated the Wisconsin commit looked to win every matchup. He had a few standout plays where he chased down ball carriers on the flat and he also had an interception early in one-on-one drills, adjusting to an underthrown ball and beating a receiver for possession.

RB D’Vaughn Pennamon

Manvel, Texas; No. 10 all-purpose back

Recruiting wrap: Pennamon is committed to Ole Miss but also has official visits to Houston (Jan. 15) and Alabama (Jan. 22) lined up before National Signing Day.

Performance: It seemed like Pennamon already knew what move he would put on defenders before he even go the ball out of the backfield. He has shown exceptional vision through the first three practices and hits the running lane with aggression. Pennamon has not shied away from lowering his shoulder and picking up tough yardage.

CB Parrish Cobb

Waco (Texas) La Vega; No. 127 in Rivals250

Recruiting wrap: Cobb is committed to Oklahoma.

Performance: The four-star cornerback had a big interception early in one-on-one drills, reading a fake slant route and staying in position to make a play on the football. Cobb later knocked away a pass thanks to a great break on a comeback route, looking smooth through his backpedal and showing good instincts.

ATH JD Spielman

Eden Prairie, Minn.; No. 25 athlete

Recruiting wrap: Spielman is committed to Nebraska.

Performance: Though small in stature, the 5-foot-8, 173-pound prospect has played big all week. He’s difficult to knock off his route because of his quickness, so defenders usually come up empty when they try to body Spielman up. He’s a matchup nightmare for linebacker who can’t keep up with him in open space.

DT Jovan Swann

Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove; No. 44 defensive tackle

Recruiting wrap: Swann has taken official visits to Stanford, Northwestern and Indiana.

Performance: The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle was explosive in one-on-one battles and carried that over to the live period, using low leverage to get into the backfield on a number of occasions. Swann has active hands and keeps his feet moving through contact to drive blockers back.

Stock Down

QB Dillon Sterling-Cole

Houston (Texas) Westfield; No. 234 in Rivals250

Recruiting wrap: Sterling-Cole is committed to Arizona State.

Performance: The all-star setting is a difficult gauge because, for quarterbacks, the game is so much about building rhythm and chemistry with receiving targets, but Sterling-Cole has struggled with consistency this week. He hasn’t been the most accurate passer and has had trouble with throws to the perimeter.

DT Osa Odighizuwa

Portland (Ore.) David Douglas; No. 40 defensive tackle

Recruiting wrap: Odighizuwa is committed to UCLA.

Performance: The three-star has shown flashes of what he could be down the road but he’s not there just yet. Odighizuwa has fairly good burst off the snap but, right now, looks undersized for the interior and not quick enough to be a force off the edge.

ATH Davir Hamilton

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly; No. 91 in California

Recruiting wrap: Hamilton is committed to Utah.

Performance: The three-star prospect was victimized at linebacker a couple times, so that might not be the best fit for him at the next level given the coverage duties. Hamilton has a long frame and the length to be disruptive, but he had a difficult time staying with quicker route runners Friday.

OLB Keenan Pili

Provo (Utah) Timpview; No. 39 outside linebacker

Recruiting wrap: Pili is committed to BYU.

Performance: The one-on-one portion of practice was a rough one for Pili, especially when he had to move laterally to cover tight ends. He doesn’t have the size just yet to body up with bigger receivers, and that gave him some trouble in coverage Friday.
