Second verse, same as first for North Shore
Galena Park (Texas) North Shore’s Friday itinerary read second verse, same as the first. In a state championship rematch between North Shore and The Woodlands, a 5-foot-10 running back took center stage, propelling himself onto recruiting scene.
“He told me he wanted 200 this week,” North Shore coach David Aymond said. “I guess he was serious, and I guess speed kills.”

That he is, Deion Gilliam.
Gilliam rushed for 223 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. Gilliam hid behind blockers and showed off his 4.4-second speed with runs of 80 and 89-yards to lead North Shore to a 28-15 win. The game was not even that close.
North Shore used its two-headed quarterback junior tandem of Kevin Rutland and Terrance Cain with success. Rutland had an 11-yard rushing touchdown, while Cain was eight of 13 and a touchdown throwing the ball.
The Woodlands’ own two-headed quarterback tandem was not nearly as successful. Senior Greg Meinzer and junior Austin Hutson combined for 55 yards and two interceptions. Running back Cameron Montgomery showed off his quick step and powerful running for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Highlanders.
The battle of the city’s top two tight ends ended in a draw between LSU commit Kyle Anderson and North Shore’s Dajleon Farr.
Both played major roles in their respective running games and are both physically imposing athletes. While many recruiting analyst feel Anderson will move to the offensive line in college, he’s surprisingly loose and athletic.
The Woodlands’ coach Mark Schmid was heard yelling at his offense to block No. 38 for the Mustangs. North Shore linebacker Joshua Jolivette wreaked havoc on the Highlander offense with his speed and football savvy.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – he’s the best we’ve had here,” Aymond says about his senior linebacker.
Defensive backs Freddie Patton and Eric Harrison patrolled the secondary for North Shore giving up only 55 yards through the air. North Shore offensive lineman Everett Edwards sat out much of the game after a knee strain from a week ago.
