LOS ANGELES - Auburn is the newest offer for four-star linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd and there is serious interest in the Tigers after a Friday night phone conversation.

“It’s big,” Floyd said at the Premium Showcase last weekend. “I had a great talk with coach (Travis Williams on Friday) night. The things he said really opened my eyes and made me see things differently and made me see Auburn in a different light.

“He was talking about how they would use me and the depth chart and what they’re bringing me in to do if I were to go there. Coach Will said I’m the money ‘backer. They’ve been looking for a linebacker like me for a really long time. They see me as an outside ‘backer. That’s what I want to do. That’s a game-changer for me.”

The former USC commit who recently transferred to Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake also started this weekend to formulate a top list of schools.

Floyd is not giving away too much but Auburn has definitely piqued his interest after he talked to Williams about how he’d be used in the Tigers’ defense.

“Just (Friday) night I started making my unofficial top schools,” Floyd said. “Right now, there is a top nine but I’m open to other offers and other situations that could be better.”

TCU, Texas and Oregon are three programs that are communicating a lot with Floyd, who said another commitment is not expected for a while.

“I kind of want to get it out of the way but I don’t think it will come before the season,” he said.
