SEC offer for N.C. kicker

Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland County kicker Jay Wooten picked up his first written scholarship offer this week from an SEC power.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder received a letter from LSU head coach Les Miles informing him that the Tigers were offering him a football scholarship.

"It felt good to get an offer from LSU," Wooten said. "It was very exciting to get an offer from a big-time program like that."
Wooten, who is being recruited for the Bayou Bengals by Bradley Dale Peveto, doesn't know much about Baton Rouge or the LSU campus.
"I haven't made a visit down there yet," he said. "But me and my parents are planning on taking a trip down there."
Wooten figures to be the top kicker prospect in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2007 and one of the best in the country.
He also is receiving attention from Auburn, Florida, North Carolina and Penn State. Those four, along with LSU currently make up his top five.
