With a confirmed 4.37-second 40-yard dash time, Miami (Fla.) Archbishop Carroll athlete George Baker is one of the fastest prospects in South Florida in this year's class. The speedster currently has a Southeastern Conference program in the lead for his services and talks about the other schools that are in hot pursuit in this interview with Rivals.com.
"Auburn is still on top," he said. "I went up to their camp two weeks ago and I liked the coaches. (Tigers South Florida recruiter and running backs coach) Eddie Gran is a good coach and I got a good vibe from him. He's a real up-front person. I also got the chance to spend time with some of the players there and enjoyed that."
Auburn is recruiting Baker as a cornerback.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Baker also went to camp at Florida. The Gators have yet to offer him a scholarship, but remain in pursuit.
"I went up to Florida's one-day camp," he said. "They got the chance to see me in person and they told me that they wanted to get to know me and stuff like that before they offered me a scholarship."
Rutgers is a school that also has Baker's attention.
"I really like (Scarlet Knights head coach) Greg Schiano," Baker said. "He came to my school (during the spring evaluation period) and he seemed like a nice guy. I have talked with him on the phone a couple of times, too. They have a nice program up at Rutgers and it's on the rise."
Ole Miss stays in contact with Baker and the Rebels are under consideration.
"They are a program on the rise," he said. "They need help. They need better players, but they will be a better program when they get them."
LSU also is after Baker.
"They have always been a good program," he said. "They have a good team and go to a bowl game almost every year. I like their success."
Baker added that he may head to Florida State for prospect camp next month.
As for a decision, he isn't planning on making one any time soon.
"It's going to be down the road," he said. "I am still doing research on all of the schools and getting to know all of the coaches."
Baker is a high (5.7) three-star rated prospect, is the No. 32 athlete in America and the No. 45 overall prospect in the state of Florida according to Rivals.com.
