SEC joins the mix for Texas RB

Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial running back Jamaal Charles continues to receive a lot of attention from colleges, both in the mail and in person. Recently, another scholarship offer came the way of the Rivals100 running back.
“Florida is the most recent to offer him a scholarship,” Memorial coach Dean Colbert said. “They are the last one to. Nebraska also did not too far back. He’s going to have some nice schools to pick from when he gets ready to make his choice.”
Charles’ list of offers now includes Arizona, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Tulsa in addition to the two new ones.
“I don’t know that he really has one school that he would say is his favorite at this time,” the coach said. “Like I said, there are so many good ones to look at already. He is doing what he needs to so he can feel comfortable about the schools he wants to visit and then try and make a choice.”
Charles has attended the spring games at both Texas and Texas A&M.
“I think he had a good time at both of them,” Colbert said. “He came back and was excited about what he had seen at both places. Those are both good programs and they are right here in the state, but there are a lot of schools here in the state.”
Charles has yet to receive a scholarship offer from Texas.
“The Texas coaches have told him they are interested in him, but they want him to come to their camp this summer. He doesn’t have that set in stone that he will go, but I think if it works out with his schedule, he will go.”
As a junior, Charles rushed for 2,051 yards and 27 touchdowns while being named the area’s most valuable player by the Port Arthur News.
