Schwapp generating lots of interest

Fullback/linebacker Asaph Schwapp hails from Connecticut -- a state not typically associated with high school football talent. But with a strong build and a little swagger, Schwapp has established himself as a big-time prospect in the Class of 2005.
"I'm the best blocker in the state," said Schwapp, a 6-foot-0, 242-pound fullback. "Once I get moving it's like I'm running downhill, and I just create this big path for the back to run through. I prefer fullback as a position, but I think most schools want me as a linebacker. We'll see what happens when I get to college."

Schwapp runs the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds and isn't just a top-notch blocker. He also rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns, while recording 74 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and eight sacks on defense for Hartford (Conn.) Weaver. He rushed for more than 10 yards-per-carry. That production was good enough to earn him all-conference honors as both a fullback and linebacker.
"I've gotten mail from Michigan State, Indiana, UConn, Boston College, Virginia and Wisconsin," he said. "Nobody's offered yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll have some scholarships pretty soon. I'm looking for a school with a good history of graduating players, and a football program that's competitive every year."
Schwapp recently attended a Junior Day at UConn, and had positive things to say about the Huskies.
"They're building a good program there, which is nice because they're an in-state school. I don't have a favorite at this point, but I think it's cool to have a good football team in the state. For so long they just got all their attention for basketball, but now they're winning on the field too. They have a good coach, and he's interested in me."
