Schools start to look at Jersey DE

A handful of schools are already taking a look at Garfield, N.J. defensive end Mike Kowalczyk. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder has two schools standing out for his services early.
"I'm getting mail mostly from Connecticut, Purdue, Rutgers and Duke," he said. "They are just sending me letters and asking that I sent out some film.

"I'd say overall I'm trying to stay around here. That means I'm favoring schools closer to home like Connecticut and Rutgers. I like Rutgers because they have a good coaching staff, while UConn is a good program."
Is Kowalczyk looking for anything else out of a school?
"I want a good education, so I can go on to a good career after college," he said. "I'm thinking possibly law, but staying close to home is the big thing for me."
While his team went 3-7, the junior end had a solid season recording 47 tackles, nine for loss and three sacks.
"I was pretty good on defense," he said. "I think I got faster off the ball and saw the field more than in previous years."
