Schools feeling out Lewerke

On the surface, not much has changed for Brian Lewerke. The Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle quarterback still has one scholarship offer - an invite from Arizona State. The interest that has ben building around him also remains. Lewerke is considered to be the top junior quarterback in Arizona.

Changes? Not yet. But those could be coming soon.
"I'm hearing from quite a of schools, really," Lewerke said. "Vanderbilt has given me an invite to a game. Also, Michigan State. Washington has sent me letters and an invite to the game. We might be planning on going to a Michigan State game."
Alabama, at which Lewerke impressed during a camp this summer, is also interested. Now days, the 6-foot-2 signal-caller is confident his options will expand. For him, the process involves some waiting. He'll travel to pass the time.
"I'm going out to a Notre Dame game sometime next month," Lewerke said. "I went to the ASU game last weekend - that crazy game. It was insane. I talked to the coaches before and a little afterwards."
Originally from Washington, Lewerke moved to Phoenix roughly five years ago. He says he didn't have a "favorite school" growing up and is without ties that will influence his recruitment. Most of him family has moved away from Washington. When he says he's "wide open", he means it in the truest sense.
"I don't really have like a dream school that I have always wanted to go to," he said. "Any school would be great.
"Obviously, I like schools that pass a lot. Also, I like a school that really wants me there. Also a school that has great academics. That's also a plus."
For now, though, options are few. And even if everyone is certain that will change eventually, ASU is the only school to make things official. Sometimes being first matters. In this case, however, it seems it does not.
Being close to home, on the other hand, just might.
"I like ASU because they are a local school. I'm not sure if it matters much that they are the first offer, but it definitely helps that they are here and close by my family. My dad wants to be able to watch my practices and games and all that."
