Schools checking on Florida RB

Bushnell (Fla.) South Sumter running back Tony Smith is waiting on his first scholarship offer, but still is getting attention from a number of college programs.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder believes that a future attempt at a standardized test will allow things to speed up with regards to his recruitment.

"Really, I'm still getting a lot of letters from different schools," he said. "I guess they are waiting on me to take the ACT, which I will be doing the first week of June. I think most schools are just waiting to see how I do on that test."
Coaches from a couple of programs have stopped by South Sumter High to check on Smith during the spring evaluation period.
"One of the coaches from UCF came down and checked on me," he said. "Today, a coach from Troy came out and watched me practice."
Letters continue to roll in from other programs.
"I'm getting letters from Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Miami and a couple of other schools," he said.
This summer, Smith plans to test his skills at a trio of in-state summer camps.
"I'm going to Central Florida (in early June with his teammate, defensive tackle prospect Marty Everett, South Florida camp with the team and Florida State's prospect camp this summer."
Currently, Smith is in the midst of spring practice.
"Spring practice is going good," he said. "I'm working on my quickness. Coach has me doing drills to work on my quickness because I have good speed, but I need to get quicker."
Smith has plenty of goals for next season.
"My coach gave my goal to me," he said. "He wants me to finish the year with 2,000 rushing yards. I had 200-plus yards receiving last year and he wants me to get 500 this coming year. I also want to have at least 30 touchdowns this year."
