Schools are evaluating DT Mahoney

Pat Mahoney is still waiting for his first offer from a school in the FBS ranks but he's not just sitting back and hoping for it to happen. He knows he's going to have to work for it.
The 6-foot-1, 265-pound defensive tackle from Greensburg (Pa.) Central Catholic has picked up an offer from Bryant, but he would like to have the opportunity to play football at the highest level.

"I've had calls from Buffalo," Mahoney said. "Villanova's interested, Pitt's interested and Bowling Green seems very interested. I think it's pretty high interest but I don't know what their decisions (on offers) will be.
"I like Pitt a lot and I like Cincinnati a lot. I like Villanova a lot, too."
With those three schools at the top of his list Mahoney is concentrating much of his attention on coaching staffs at those respective places.
"I've been to Pitt for a camp on Friday and that went well. I thought I did good at the Pitt camp and I thought they liked me a lot. I still don't know if they've made a decision. They told me they'll be in contact in the future.
"I'm going to Cincinnati this Wednesday and then Bowling Green on Friday. Those are both one-day camps."
Mahoney said all of the schools that have spoken to him are recruiting him as a defensive tackle.
Last fall at Central Catholic he recorded 11 sacks, three interceptions and scored two touchdowns. How exactly does a defensive tackle pick off two passes?
"Well, one of them he (the quarterback) just threw right at me when I was rushing on the edge," he laughed. "I just snagged it. Another was on a tipped ball, and the other one the quarterback was falling down and he threw it to me."
Mahoney has run the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds.
